Obituary for Melba Cannon

Melba Cannon
Melba Olene Hill Cannon, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Bruce Living Center on Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born May 1, 1929, in the Wardwell Community, she was the daughter of the late Olen Hannaford Hill and the late Kathleen White Hill. She was a graduate of Derma High School, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun City. Ms. Melba married the love of her life, Joe Bob Cannon, and together they had two sons. As her children grew and had families of their own, it was her great joy to have everyone gather as often as possible. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and she looked forward each year to getting everything decorated and cooking for everyone. She was very social and never missed an opportunity to spend time with her friends and family. Ms. Melba loved clothes and loved getting all dressed up. She was graceful and charming in everything she did. She was a true Southern Lady, and she will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
Pryor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at 11:00am at Pryor Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home. Bro. Robert Earl Alexander will be officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Sean Cannon, Wade Cannon, Tyler Cannon, Luke Cannon, Hayden McCostlin, and nephew, Jody Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be John Graves Burt, Forrest “Popie” Pope, David Hill, and Stephen Farmer.
She leaves behind her two sons, Jeff Cannon and his wife Anne of Tupelo, and Michael Joe Cannon and his wife Cheryl of Oxford; two brothers, John W. (Gloria) Hill of Brandon, MS, and Ricky Hannaford (Pauline) Hill of Jackson, MS; five grandchildren, Sean (Julia) Cannon of Fulton, MS, Carla (Allen) Blackwelder of Bruce, MS, Tyler Cannon of Cleveland, MS, Morgan Cannon of Dallas, TX, and Luke Cannon of Oxford, MS; five great-grandchildren, Hayden McCostlin, Bryce Blackwelder, Wade Cannon, Jenna Cannon, and Josie Cannon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe Bob Cannon, and two sisters, Dorothy Hill Howell, and Margurite Womble.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Calhoun City. The family would also like to give special thanks to the staff of Bruce Living Center, and also her personal caregiver, Ida Sykes. Their love and kindness will be forever cherished.
