Obituary for Mae Edmondson (Ellis)

Mae Edmondson (Ellis)
Mae Ellis Edmondson, 77, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. She was born April 24, 1939 in Vardaman, MS; she was the daughter of the late Paul Ellis and Pauline Ramage Ellis.
Mrs. Mae was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church. She grew up in the New Liberty community among family and close friends. She met and married Harold Edmondson of Vardaman, MS. They celebrated the birth of two sons, Paul Norman Edmondson and John Scott Edmondson in their 52 years of marriage. They were blessed with grandchildren, too: Ashley Edmondson Hughes, Payton Edmondson, Kenneth Walls, Ethan Edmondson, Evan Edmondson, and Brinkley Shappley-Spillers. She was doubly blessed with great-grandchildren: Sawyer Hughes and Haden Hughes.
She retired from Vardaman Elementary School in Vardaman, MS after serving 26 years as a Teacher’s Assistant where she taught many of the Vardaman Community how to read. She was an avid reader and one of the first members of the John S. Edmondson Memorial Library in Vardaman, MS. She was a life-long supporter of the public library. She enjoyed working in her garden and instilled the love of reading and gardening to her children and grandchildren. She loved the close-knit community of neighbors and friends where she resided for more than 50 years.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 5:00pm – 7:00 pm at Pryor Funeral Home in Calhoun City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 am at the New Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Sherman Adams officiating. Burial will follow at the New Liberty Cemetery in Vardaman.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Norman (Amy) Edmondson, Vardaman, MS; John Scott (Missy) Edmondson, Vardaman, MS; grandchildren, Ashley Edmondson Hughes, Payton Edmondson, Kenneth Walls, Ethan Edmondson, Evan Edmondson, all of Vardaman, MS, and Brinkley Shappley-Spillers, Oxford, MS; great-grandchildren, Sawyer Hughes and Haden Hughes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Harold Edmondson, and a brother, Jimmie (Fuzz) Ellis.
Pallbearers will be Jackson Burt, Ryan Winter, Gene Ruth, Earl McGregor, Randle Wright, and Kevin Stafford.
