Robert Thompson Gaston, Jr. passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 in Calhoun City. He was born to Robert T. Gaston, Sr. and Gladys Ligon Gaston on July 13, 1933, in Noxapater, Miss. and moved to Calhoun City at an early age.
Mr. Gaston graduated from Calhoun City High School and was a 1955 graduate of Mississippi State University. Following graduation, he served in the Army Finance Corps in Frankfurt, Germany, before returning to Mississippi to work in banking. In later years he worked for Sunburst Bank, from which he retired. After retirement he returned to Calhoun City. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Calhoun City, and served as a deacon there. He had a deep interest in family history and was a charter member of the Calhoun County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc., and a charter member of the David Murphree Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his sisters Rebecca Dye of Friendswood, Texas, and Bobbie Kenna of McComb, Miss. He is also survived by nephews Joey Kenna (Lynne) of Forest, Miss. and Bob Kenna of Memphis, Tenn. He is survived by three nieces as well: Rebecca Dye Parkhill (Trent) of Winchester, Mass., Margaret Dye Baker (Wes) of Webster, Texas, and Robin Dye Martin (Don) of Richmond, Va. He has seven great-nephews and two great nieces.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pryor Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m.
