Obituary for Sara James

Sara James
Calhoun City - Sara A. James passed away peacefully at her home in Calhoun City Tuesday, January 30, 2018.
Born October 23, 1929, in Duck Hill, MS, she was the daughter of the late Marvin G. Abel, Sr., and the late Jewel Alexander Abel.
Mrs. James graduated from Lloyd T. Binford High School in Duck Hill, and attended Delta State University.
Sara was married to U.E. (Jack) James for almost 69 years, and they have a daughter, Jackie James DeArmond of Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Those who knew Mrs. James will remember her for the love and devotion she invested in the children with whom she worked at Calhoun City Elementary School for nearly twenty years.
Sara loved gardening and creating beautiful needlework. Nothing gave her more pleasure than doing counted-thread embroidery and cross stitch for friends and family.
Among her many passions were English history and literature as well as Civil War history of which she possessed scholarly knowledge. Sara also loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her daughter throughout the United States and Europe.
Her family and friends will always remember how much she loved animals and how she was always willing to provide a loving home to homeless cats and dogs.
A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church in Calhoun City, where she was a member for 62 years. There will also be a visitation on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Pryor Funeral Home. Brother Jim Vance will officiate. Interment will follow at Calhoun City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Morman, Mike Beasley, Barney Wade, Charles Brown, Harold James and Robert Doolittle.
She leaves behind her husband of 68 years, U.E. (Jack) James; a daughter, Jackie James DeArmond and her husband, Keith, of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, as well as a brother, Marvin G. Abel, Jr. of Duck Hill, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ann Abel Patridge, and a brother, William B. Abel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
