Betty Jean Lucius, 83, passed away peacefully at Baptist Nursing Home in Calhoun City on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born April 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Spencer Lucius and the late Alto Hood Lucius. She was a member of New Providence Baptist Church, and was always faithful in her attendance, even when it was a struggle. Betty was very persistent with her goals, and one of her proudest moments was when she finally finished school in May of 2016, and fulfilled her lifelong dream at the age of 82. She was very proud of her brothers and loved being with her family and going places. She especially loved the holidays and any special occasion with them. A very kind and loving woman, her memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 2:00pm at Pryor Funeral Home. Officiating will be Bro. Jon Stewart, with Bro. Jerry Wilson and Bro. Keith Spratlin assisting. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Calhoun City.
She leaves behind a sister, Geraldine Dye of Grenada, MS; four brothers, Kenneth “Kemp” (Margie) Lucius, Mark (Jan) Lucius, Phil (Joyce) Lucius, and Mike (Shirley) Lucius, all of Derma, MS; brother-in-law, Elbie Wayne Dickerson, and sister-in-law, Faye Lucius. Bet was also blessed with a host of nieces and nephews, in which she treated as her very own.
Pallbearers will be Chris Lucius, Jason Lucius, Brooks Lucius, Lynn Lucius, Chad Lucius, and Tony Parker. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Alax Dickerson, and brothers, Spencer Ray Lucius and Larry Lucius.
Her family is eternally grateful to the staff of Baptist Nursing Home for loving “Aunt Bet” as their own.
