Col. Edwin A. Boland, U.A.S.F. Retired, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at his home in Calhoun City. He was born on August 6, 1930, to Eugene and Eddith Burson Boland of Calhoun City. He graduated from Calhoun City High School and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Mississippi College. Upon graduation from M.C., he joined the Air Force and flew Photo Reconnaissance fighter jets until 1957. He them flew with the TN Air National Guard and the Miss. Air National Guard. He flew the RF-84F longer than anyone in the U.S.
He was manager of Boland’s Dept. Store after his father’s death. He later served as Buildings Manager at First Baptist Church in Calhoun City. He was also a salesman for Durotest Lighting Corp.
He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was the longest living member.
He served as a volunteer firefighter for 50 years and served as chief for three years.
He was a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of America, the Daedalians, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Virginia Lusk; one daughter, Debbie (Chuck) Williams of Madison, MS; one son, Allen (Martha) Boland of Metropolis, IL; one brother, Robert (Lou) Boland of Columbus, MS; and three grandchildren, Hunter Williams, Brittany Williams, and Elizabeth Boland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Boland and Eddith Boland Patterson, and his sister, Bonnie Boland Fesmire.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 21st at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Visitation will be Friday January 20th from 5:00-7:00 PM and Saturday, January 21st from 12noon-2:00 pm at the church. Interment will be at Calhoun City Cemetery. Pryor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Sociey.
